Fireflies Support
One tap, and a chain of light spreads across a dark field — free, and always ad-free. If something isn’t working or you have a question, we’re happy to help.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play?
Tap anywhere, once. A bloom of light expands from where you tapped, and every firefly it touches blooms in turn — those catch more, and the chain spreads on its own. That single tap is the whole input; after it, you just watch.
Is there a way to aim more carefully?
Yes, and it’s easy to miss. Instead of tapping, press and hold — a dashed ring appears showing exactly how far your bloom will reach, and it follows your finger until you let go. It’s worth using on the later levels.
The little trails behind each firefly are a hint too: a bloom stays at full size for over a second, so where the fireflies are heading matters more than where they are right now.
Is Fireflies really free?
Yes. The whole game is free, with no ads and nothing locked behind a paywall. There’s an optional “tip” in Settings if you’d like to support development — but it’s never required and never expected.
What is the tip in Settings?
A small, optional in-app purchase that simply says thank you. It doesn’t unlock levels, remove anything, or change how the game plays in any way — the entire game is already yours. Leave one or don’t; the game won’t bring it up again.
I left a tip — can I get a receipt or a refund?
All purchases are handled securely by Apple. Your receipt comes from Apple by email, and any refund requests are managed through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something looks wrong, email us and we’ll help however we can.
What are the three modes?
Classic is a full twelve-level run. The board stays sparse, but the target climbs from catching one firefly out of five to fifty-five out of sixty, so the late levels ask for a near-perfect chain. Fall short and you simply retry that level.
Practice lets you pick any single level and play it on its own, as often as you like. Custom lets you choose anywhere from five to a hundred fireflies with no target at all — just a sandbox for chasing one enormous cascade.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. A Classic run in progress is saved as you go, so you can close the game mid-run and pick up right where you left off — the home screen will offer to continue. Your best run total and your best result on each level are kept too. Everything is stored on your device only, and nothing syncs between devices.
Can I turn off the music, sounds, or vibration?
Yes — tap the gear in the top-right of the home screen. Music, sound effects and haptics each have their own switch. All of the audio is made by the game itself as it plays, and it respects your device’s silent switch.
Do I need an internet connection to play?
No. Fireflies plays completely offline — it has no network code at all. A connection is only ever used by Apple if you choose to leave a tip.
Does it work with accessibility settings?
Turning on Reduce Motion changes how a bloom is drawn — it swells in brightness instead of size — without changing the game itself, so the levels play exactly the same either way. Larger text sizes are supported throughout, and VoiceOver can reach every button, level and setting. The playing field itself is visual and timing-based, so it isn’t really playable without sight, and we’d rather say so plainly than pretend otherwise.
Which devices are supported?
Fireflies runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, in any orientation.
